Michael Sage Schindler

Founder, Owner, Event & Celebration Director, Writer & Master of Ceremonies

LSNY Events was created in 1991 by Michael Sage Schindler. Michael comes to the special event industry by way of professional theater. He started acting when he was 16 years old, if you discount an award winning performance for BEST KISS WHILE HOPING NOT TO HAVE TO DO IT playing Prince Charming in kindergarten, where he co-produced Woody Allen's "Don't Drink the Water" at his local theater company. This was his first real lead and opporuntity to make people laugh in public He followed that up by forming an Improvisational comedy group at his high school called the JFK Raiders. One of the highlights of the guerilla style comedy the Raiders did was Michael announcing to the lunch crowd the Raiders would be performing at the upcoming pep rally while calmly pouring a pint of milk over his head. This picture graces the back cover of the yearbook for posterity. He began working professionally each summer while on his way went on to getting his BFA in Theater at Ithaca College. Michael first professional acting experience had him at the American Stage Festival in NH working along side Broadway actors, and future Tony Award winner Michael Ruppert, future Tony, Emmy, Golden Globe Award winner Christine Baranski, and future Obie Award winner Will Patton. (Remember the Titans, most recently seen in Falling Skies).Next summer Michael was at the Foundation Theater in NJ sharing the stage with Jude Ciccolella (24, Shawshank Redemption, Sin City) in a production of Scapino.Michael came to NYC after graduating and got cast working with acclaimed actor William Fichtner (most rerecently seen in Entourage) in his very first play in NY. His 3rd year in the NYC he was spotted during a national tour by someone in the events industry who recruited him for a theatrical style special event company in Long Island. Michael went on to create characters perform dance numbers and comically interact with guests for the next 5 years. He adored getting paid to making crowds of people happy and guests loved having him there. Using his dance skills, improvisational ability, comedic ability and love of engaging with people, numerous guests would follow his lead on the dance floor. People would continue to join in and before long he was directing large crowds regularly. Not yet even on a microphone Michael realized he was regularly able to lead waves of people through spontaneous choreography like a Party Flash Mob.At one such party where this happened Michael had the AHA moment that with a microphone he could really create reach out and makemagic.So Michael went on to take the mic and MC mitzvahs, Friday night happy hour parties, corporate parties like a fish to water and Lightning Shakes New York began to take off.With his acting improv and dance background it took very little time before Michael was able to adapt to the many nuances and skills necessary to become of a top entertainment host.Over the course of many seasons of events and thousands of parties which span many years Michael would conitnue to learn and grow and fuse his passion for singing, dancing, improvisation, writing, acting and directing with mastering the art of the engaging people on the microphone to become one of the most requested and sought after event directors and MCs in the industry today.
STARTING LSNY EVENTS: ALWAYS CREATE SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARYOne of the main reasons for starting LSNY, as corny it may sound, is Michael's passion to celebrate life and being alive. As a young boy, Michael survived not one but two life threatening accidents. The first was a bicycle accident where he was thrown over the handle bars head first on to the pavement.The second happened during elementary school gym class getting ready for a softball game. Another boy took a practice swing without clearing enough space. Michael was hit in the head with a baseball bat less than 1/2 inch from his right temple. While each was very serious Michael would make a full recovery. But these 2 incidents had a profound effect and shaped the direction of his life.Before he had turned 11 he was powerfully aware of the preciousness and fragility of life. He was overcome with this deep desire to make some lasting positive difference and create something that uplifted people in whatever way he could. And his way would be through his performances and entertaining.Getting laughs as an actor, and aspiring comic, and playing and singing music felt great and touched people in the right places, but it all came together for Michael in Special Events. Being able to use his full talent and personality to create laughs, a packed dance floor while honoring, appreciating and shining the light on a person, a family, a couple, a company, a cause, was something EXACTLY IT! It had everything and more. Something well beyond the simple idea of having a party, dancing, having fun and entertaining people. It could be Magical.An opportunity to create something greater than the event: Something that often went above and beyond having a great time. An inspireid energy like a GREAT LOVE that spreads out and welcomed into peoples' souls. Working with other event companies was very enjoyable and fun, and a great learning experience. Yet Michael often felt that THE BIG OPPORTUNITY was often missing. While the events were very good and sometimes great there was something vital often strangely missing. They would often miss the mark on the special part of the special event. So Michael created LSNY so he could provide clients and their guests everything that a great event should have ALONG with that missing piece: The Extraordinary.To do that each person Michael assembled for the team would have to be coming from the same place with the same mission: Total Commitment to use their abilities to helping others to reach the most fun, joyful extraordinary even inspired moments. Fun Facts: Married to a gorgeous wife Tiffony (still one of the greatest wedding moments ever) and the father of two amazing girls 2 and 5 years old who are already exhibiting strong signs of becoming MCs.•Began playing golf at age 20 months (pre Tiger) and came in 2nd in a national pee wee golf tournament when he was 5 years old. Currently gets to play in the spring and summer to a 6 handicap. No illusions of turning pro.•Taught himself how to play the piano at age 5 and has written over 75 songs. He was invited be the opening act with a live performance of his own songs at the grand opening of the Songwriters Hall of Fame Showcase in NYC. •Has had his music professionally recorded by Jomanda on Big Beat Atlantic Records.•Performed in 2 national touring theatrical shows, for over 7 years. One "Last One in" a childrens show that was written and directed by revered acting coach Harold Guskin (acting coach for Hollywood's biggest stars Glenn Close, Kevin Kline, Michael J. Fox and many others).Michael was asked to write 3 songs for the show which played the Kennedy Center. •Halfway There a critically acclaimed drama that dealt with teen drug and alcohol abuse played across the country from Off Broadway to Regional theaters to prisons. Former NY Senator Benjamin Gilman said of the show, "It's the finest piece on drug and alcohol abuse I've ever seen."•Has been a Master of Ceremonies & Celebrations for weddings, mitzvahs, sweet 16s, holiday parties, corporate awards shows, corporate launches working with many celebrities such as Donald Trump, Cyndi Lauper, Paula Deen, just to name a few, at some of the most prestigious venues in NYC, The Plaza, The Palace, St Regis, The Harvard Club, Ritz Carlton, Waldorf Astoria, Rockefeller Center, Mandarin Oriental, W hotel, Ciprianis, The Hilton New York, Grand Hyatt, and many more as well as most of the Atlantic City Casinos, major venues up and down the east coast as far as Florida and the Carribean, internationally as far as Italy and Switzerland.•Played softball with ABC TV in the NY Performing Arts League with Metereologist Bill Evans. ONE of the GREATEST NOTES EVERMy wife, Claire, and I have been asked to provide a reference on behalf of Michael Schindler and we are delighted to do so.Claire is a consultant and former banker, having worked for nearly 20 years with American Express Bank in New York City. I am an attorney and member of the Bar of the State of New York, currently serving as Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer for Northern Trust Corporation in Chicago, Illinois. We first met Mr. Schindler about two years ago, when we first started preparations for our eldest daughters wedding, but his reputation in our Brooklyn Heights community extends back far before that.Since neither we nor any of our close friends had planned a wedding reception in New York City, my wife sought advice from some of our Jewish friends who had arranged bar mitzvahs over the years, as she figured these family celebrations have much in common. The very first person she consulted said, The most important thing about the reception is the Master of Ceremonies you choose. If you want the very best, you have to get Michael Schindler. Our friend went on to explain that her sons bar mitzvah was scheduled to take place on the Saturday following September 11, 2001. After the terrible events of that week unfolded so close by, her family was at a loss about what to do. They consulted with Mr. Schindler and reflected. He recommended that they proceed with the event and they followed his advice. At the reception after the religious ceremony, in a most gentle and dignified way, he transformed the somber crowd into a warm and unified group and made the bar mitzvah an unforgettable, joyful and life-affirming event. We also learned of another event Mr. Schindler hosted with sensitivity and joy: that of another young man in our neighborhood who, despite having Down Syndrome, managed to successfully prepare for his bar mitzvah. Although Mr. Schindlers own wedding was to take place the following day, he decided nonetheless this childs mitzvah was too important not to serve as Master of Ceremonies for that very special occasion.As we looked for our own wedding reception locales, we visited the Brooklyn Historical Society and asked the Facilities Manager there if he had any recommendations for Masters of Ceremonies/DJs.
